CRANE OPERATOR
JOB PURPOSE
1. Responsible for operating a stationary or traveling crane to lift. move. position. and reposition loads. Depresses
buttons. lifls levers. and ensures load is safely attached to crane before bringing it down
2. Whenever there is reasonable cause to believe that the lifl might be dangerous or unsafe. the operator must refuse
to lift until the concern has been re mned to the supervisor. any hazards are rectified. and safety conditions are met
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Operate all site mobile crane.
Make judgments on the working condition of all equipment and provide recommendations on required repairs or
replacement
Participate in pre-job planning and conduct pre-operational checks (visual walk-about) for operational safety of
equipment
Determine appropriate equipment to be used for specific application including load capacity and conditions
Maintaining communication with signalpersons
Ensuring that the apprentice is in a safe place during operation
Moving the crane. Shutting down and securing the machine properly when it is unattended
Exercising the right to refuse to operate the crane if there is cause to suspect the lift might be unsafe
Assist in the trainin 1 of new recruits and attend safe , meetin 1 . tool box talks and scheduled training courses
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS I ABILITIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to perform a variety of tasks, and is able to change assignments
quickly on short notice
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and written; and understand and carry-out written and oral instructions from
the manager
Ability to read. understand. follow and enforce safety procedures
Completed secondary school (high school/diploma is an advantage). Ability to read. write and speak basic English and
preferably completed a certified lifting and slinging course
