The Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) is a maritime policy research institute set up by Malaysian Government to look into matters relating to Malaysia’s interest at sea, and it also to serve a national centre for all maritime-related matters. MIMA is looking for suitable Malaysian candidates with strong interest in research-based work to fill the position of:
Positions:
1. RESEARCHER / RESEARCH ASSISTANT
CENTRE FOR COASTAL AND MARINE ENVIRONMENT (CMER)
Responsibilities:
Plan, initiate and undertake annual research projects.
Develop policy options based on research carried out to safeguard and advance Malaysia’s maritime interest.
Keep abreast of trends and developments in maritime industry and related fields.
Undertake special projects and consultancy work from time to time.
Produce books, conference proceedings, papers, articles, commentaries and other types of publications.
Organise conference, seminars, talks, roundtables or present research findings at such events.
Assist the Centre Head in the day-to-day running of the Research Centre that the Researcher and Research Assistant is attached to.
Foster and maintain relationship with regulatory agencies, industry players, the academia and other stakeholders in the maritime industry.
Undertake other tasks assigned by the Centre Head/ Management.
Requirements:
Possesses a minimum Bachelor degree in Environmental / Marine Science, Fishery Management or related subjects.
Candidates with Master will have an advantage.
Preferably with at least 2 years of working experience. Working experience in research or in the maritime and environmental economics of fisheries managements would be an advantage.
Proficient in written and spoken Bahasa Melayu and English
Literate in the Microsoft Windows environment.
Strong interest in research-based work.
Resourceful and industrious.
Able to work well in a result-oriented environment, whether individually or in a team setting and to multitask.
Salary will commensurate with qualifications and working experience.

About MIMA
The Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) – formerly known as Malaysian Institute of Maritime Affairs - is a policy research institute set up by the Malaysian Government to look into matters relating to Malaysia's interest at sea, and to serve as a national focal point for research in the maritime sector. Established in 1993, MIMA was incorporated under the Companies Act 1965, as a company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital, with its own Board of Directors.
The Institute takes a comprehensive approach in dealing with maritime issues. Its role is to deal with national, regional and global maritime matters affecting Malaysia. MIMA is therefore expected to contribute towards a meaningful, comprehensive and cogent national maritime policy for Malaysia.
One key task of the Institute is to complement the efforts of the various government agencies involved in the maritime sector by mobilising expertise to assist and support them in national maritime policy planning and implementation. The Institute’s role will be both advisory and consultative. MIMA will provide advice and second opinions to Government agencies and other relevant organisations. The Institute also has the task of promoting the free exchange of ideas on all maritime matters.
